BRIDAL ALTERATION TIPS
What information is helpful  to know before I book my appointments?

  • Talk to other shops to make sure you are comfortable with the business you are choosing; each seamstress has their own way of running their business and often uses different sewing techniques.  Ask for pictures of completed past work.

  • Ask Questions! If you don't understand the process or timelines needed to complete the work, it is our job to make sure you fully understand the process and what is going on.

  • If possible, have a consultation and get a quote to ensure the cost of alterations are within your budget, this will also allow you to meet the seamstress in person to ensure their sewing skills will be a good fit for your needs.

  • BOOK EARLY, appointments fill up fast!! Wedding gown alterations can take 3 to 4 months to complete. Expect to spend an hour at each fitting and keep in mind, Caught Dead Threads charges rush fees starting at 6 weeks and the cost will increase the closer it is to the event date.

  • Wedding gowns can feel uncomfortable to wear. We try our best to alleviate any uncomfortable areas so please let your seamstress know if a particular area of the gown is bothering you so it can be addressed.

  • Never skip your final fitting and send someone to pick up your completed gown. You always need to try it on at your final fitting to ensure the work that you contracted to have done is fully completed to your expectations. Once the gown leaves the shop the shop is will no longer be responsible to make any more adjustments, you are fully responsible for the gown from then on.

  • If possible, bring a support person with you!

  • Bring your exact dress shoes and special undergarments to all of your fittings.
